The community gathered in Arroyo Grande for an event that aims to support a homeless nonprofit.

The 14th annual Empty Bowls event was held at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church.

Attendees were served soup in bowls that were hand-crafted and donated by local artists on the Central Coast, which they could then take home. The proceeds are going to the 5Cities Homeless Coalition.

The CalAIM team works with individuals in custody to prepare for their release by connecting them with care, housing, and services before they leave jail.

“These cabins represent more than shelter—they’re a fresh start for people rebuilding their lives,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.

The Sheriff’s Office acknowledged 5Cities Homeless Coalition as a partner in the initiative.

“We’re grateful to our partners at 5Cities Homeless Coalition for their incredible work,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “Together, we’re building real pathways to stability and dignity.”

One year after the Supreme Court’s landmark Grants Pass decision allowing government agencies to ban public sleeping, our community stands at a crossroads. Regardless of how you feel about the court’s decision, I believe we can agree that homelessness is harmful.
