5Cities Homeless Coalition proudly announces the grand opening of our second transitional housing project, Balay Ko on Barca.
Replicating the Cabins for Change non-congregate housing project which opened in December of 2022, Balay Ko on Barca will be a 90 - 180 day housing-focused program that will accept pets, offer onsite case management, and a community room where on-site enrichment activities will be provided.
The non-congregate approach has a few key benefits. It…
- Provides a new stable living environment in South County that fosters rest, recovery, and hope;
- Is more efficient, from a construction standpoint;
- Offers guests security and privacy of their own space;
- Has added health benefits by reducing pathogen exposure, such as COVID-19, to our community's most vulnerable population.
Following the success of the Cabins for Change initiative, the Balay Ko on Barca facility will offer 30 more cabins to individuals on the pathway to stable housing. Both projects present the opportunity for 50 individuals ready to transition to permanent housing a safe and secure place to gain stability on the Central Coast.
